Hi, my quilting experience is a bit different. You see, I HATED sewing in school and would do anything to get out of it. So my home ec classes covered the cooking portion, but no sewing. Had they offered quilting it might have been a different story, but no - we were to make clothes. I actually tried to make a couple of things later in life and they all ended up in the garbage can. I wouldn’t wear any of these items to a grape stomping event, much less out in public.
I went years and told my husband that I wanted NOTHING to do with a sewing machine, and if he needed anything repaired, that is what the dry cleaners or alternations people did, not me!
Then.... about 4 years ago I went into a Beverly’s Store for something, I don’t even remember what and hanging up was a beautiful Halloween Quilt. I fell immediately in love with the colors and pattern, but was still scared and intimidated about sewing anything. I asked this wonderful woman in the fabric department if it is possible for even me to quilt. She reassured me and explained that she teaches classes and that no one has ever failed one. That we would have fun learning and I would be so proud of any quilt I would make. That wonderful woman is Betty Thomas and she was right. But...
Remember I said it was a Halloween Quilt, it was September, so I came home and told my hubby that I wanted to quilt and he fainted dead away. Once I revived him he laughed hysterically. But I forgave him! It still took me all the way until January to get a sewing machine (scared and intimidated) and I signed up for the first class. That has been tons of quilts ago. I absolutely love quilting. I love the colors and patterns and the camaraderie with all my quilting buddies. In fact, if we are not meeting at least one a month, I go into withdrawal.
I have 2 cats, Petey (a hugh black and white beast) and Cricket (an orange and white normal sized kitty). They both help me quilt. In fact, whenever I lay blocks out on the floor to determine which will go where, they both come from where ever they have been hiding all day just to sit on my blocks. I guess that is their form of input!
Since my first attempt, my husband has now gotten into the game and has bought a long arm quilting machine so he is having fun too!
I hope you like my quilts and the warmth and joy they will bring you as you share them with your family and your home. We love ours, they are just the right weight and colors to put anywhere!
